The National Healthcare for the Homeless Council in the U.S. is an excellent organization which works to provide much-needed free healthcare for homeless people and does advocacy campaigns to generate public awareness about the need for healthcare for people without homes
Homeless People on the Internet is a resource to communicate and share information with other homeless people online, and also creates awareness for people who are not homeless themselves, but can see first hand stories here. Contrary to popular elitist stereotypes in the U.S., most homeless people actually are doing something on a daily basis, not standing or sitting on street corners. Many use library resources to access the internet and find ways to improve their lives. For instance, you can find shelters on the internet much easier, sometimes, than by walking around asking people on the street where one is.

The National Coalition for the Homeless - U.S. is an advoacy organization that creates awareness, works to help homeless people and provides information online directly of us to people who are currently homeless (such as shelter listings)

The University of the Poor is project of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union, which also started the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, and many other projects in the U.S. advocating for the rights of people with low incomes to receive adequate resources and affordable housing. They are a leader in fighting for economic rights for the poor, and their website is definitely worth looking at.
The National Priorities Project can tell you exactly how many tax dollars are being spent in the federal budget and in state budgets in the United States (such as, how much goes towards social services programs versus the military budget)
